"The Walking Dead" is based off of the popular comic series of the same name from Robert Kirkman.
Not all of the characters on the AMC show have roots in the comics though. Daryl and Tara are among the series' original characters. Others, like Carol, are completely different from their comic-book counterparts.

We've seen Rick go from the tame and quick-thinking "Officer Friendly" to a more savage, menacing force in the zombie apocalypse.
Now, Rick has brought together three communities โ Alexandria, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom โ in the war against Negan.
Rick's son Carl is played by Chandler Riggs who grew up on the show.
Carl has had one of the series' largest transformations. Not only has actor Chandler Riggs grown his hair out, but now he wears a prosthetic and bandage to cover up his missing eye to look like a spitting image of his comic counterpart.
Danai Gurira plays the katana-wielding Michonne.
While Rick and Michonne started a relationship on the show, that's not the case in the comics; the two are just good friends.
Instead, she starts relationships with Morgan and King Ezekiel in the books. The TV version of Michonne has partially taken over the role of Andrea from the comic, who similarly starts up a relationship with Rick.
Melissa McBride has transformed the role of Carol from the comics.
Carol is a lot younger in the comics and, unlike her show counterpart, starts numerous troubled relationships. She even proposed a polyamorous one with Rick and his former wife, Lori. She eventually started to lose a grip on reality and let a zombie bite her in the neck to her death.
If you've been paying attention to Carol's character arc lately on the show, it may make you think she could be heading down a similar path. She began seeing visions of the dead as their former selves last season. Right now, it looks like Carol has shaken off her instabilities for a moment to focus on the larger war at hand.
Khary Payton entered the show's seventh season as the larger-than-life and theatrical King Ezekiel.
Just like his namesake from the comics, Ezekiel has a tiger named Shiva which is currently helping him in the war against the Saviors. Her time on the show may be not be long though.
Lauren Cohan plays the tough-as-nails Maggie Greene.
Though they may look similar, the show's version of Maggie has always been strong and independent. In the comics, Maggie struggles with insecurities and, at one point, attempts to take her own life. She also becomes a surrogate mother to Carol's daughter Sophia, who is still alive in the comics.
Lennie James returned several times throughout the series to play Morgan Jones.
The biggest difference with Morgan in the comics is that he begins a relationship with Michonne.
The show's version of Morgan has long outlived his comic counterpart who died before Rick's group even met Negan.
Ross Marquand joined the show as Aaron on season five.
Aaron is a recruiter who looked for new residents to join Alexandria in both the comics and the show. He has since become an important ally for Rick and Maggie in both the show and the comics.
Christian Serratos plays Rosita, who has become consumed by the need to destroy the Saviors.
The Rosita we meet in the comics starts out wearing a pretty impractical midriff-baring outfit. Although we see Rosita start out with that outfit on the show, she quickly changes into a more sensible outfit to take on Negan's men.
Tom Payne is quite the ringer for Paul, who's better known as Jesus.
In the comics, Jesus starts wearing his hair in a man bun. We're excited to see that look since it seems more practical in a zombie apocalypse.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan came on in the show's sixth season finale as the bat-wielding menace, Negan.
Minus the beard and the red scarf early, Negan's probably one of the characters the show has most tried to emulate โ from the comics down to his foul language and mannerisms. Last season, that may have proved a bit much for fans of the show after its season seven premiere was heavily criticized for brutal violence.
Austin Amelio plays one of Negan's former right-hand men who has decided to turn against him.
Viewers of the show have gotten to see a bit more of Dwight's past than comic readers. In the comics and the show, however, he helps Rick and company in the war against Negan.
Avi Nash just joined the cast as Siddiq, who Carl is bringing back to Alexandria.
In the comics, Siddiq is introduced after the war with Negan is over. He joined the Alexandria community at some point and helps out with the construction crew. He's also a fisherman from the Oceanside community in the comics. It's not clear whether or not that will tie into the show at all or if that will be changed up.
