Gwyneth Paltrow spent the summer letting her roots go grey out of sheer laziness, and I've never related to anything more.
From the comfort of what appears to be her Los Angeles home, the actor and wellness mogul hopped on her Instagram Stories to host a casual Q&A session with her more than 8 million followers. In between meetings she proceeded to answer some of their most burning questions, from why she stopped doing Marvel movies to what she misses most about her late father. One fan asked via submission, “Are [you] growing in to your natural grey hair? Which is beautiful btw.”
“I don't know,” the 50-year-old replied. “I’ve just been lazy over the summer.” After all, low-maintenance hair colour is usually the way to go when you're spending so much time swimming and travelling. Paltrow then raised her camera to her scalp, giving viewers a better glimpse of her grown-out silver-streaked roots.
“Should I? Do you guys think I should go gray or keep my highlights?” she posed the question to the audience more broadly. Paltrow even added an onscreen poll directing followers to weigh in on whether she should “go grey” or “stay blonde.” So far the poll results indicate 43% of participants would like to see her “go grey” while the remaining 57% voted “stay blonde.”
In July, Gwyneth Paltrow spoke to British Vogue about going grey and the gendered “double standard” to which women are held as they age.
“As women, we want to be healthy. We want to be aging,” she noted. “This idea that we’re supposed to be frozen in time is so weird.”
“I love it when I hear somebody like Andie MacDowell, with her beautiful grey curls, talking about embracing aging and the difference between how we handle a George Clooney,” she added. “It’s handsome [for men] to go grey, but for women it’s like, ‘What do you plan to do about your wrinkles and your aging skin?’ There’s definitely a double standard.”
