Eduardo Palomo, one of Mexico’s most-beloved telenovela stars, died of a sudden heart attack in an L.A. restaurant Thursday, Nov. 6. He was 41.

Palomo was dining in area restaurant the Argentine Grill, when he grasped at his chest and collapsed, according to reports from friends who were dining with him. Thesp was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center but could not be resuscitated.

The actor, born in Mexico City, first acted at 12. He entered the National Autonomous U. of Mexico to study graphic design but left to pursue acting, landing his first screen role when he was 20.

He gained his greatest fame starring in Mexican telenovelas, most notably as the long-haired, mournful heartthrob Juan del Diablo in “Corazon salvaje” (Wild Heart). Skein, which ran on Televisa in 1993, remains one of the most critically acclaimed novelas.

He also acted in film. Credits include 1989 political thriller “Rojo amanecer” (Red Dawn) and 1999’s “Cronica de un desayuno” (Chronicle of Breakfast). He also provided the voice of Tarzan in the Spanish-lingo version of Disney’s “Tarzan.”

Palomo moved to L.A. several years ago with the goal of breaking into U.S. film and TV. He landed a role in the six-part NBC mini “Kingpin,” which aired in February.

Still, he continued acting in Mexican productions including “El Misterio del Trinidad” (The Mystery of the Trinity), now playing in Mexican cinemas.

Most recently, he acted in “A Day Without a Mexican,” helmed by Sergio Arau, which imagines a California suddenly bereft of Mexicans. Pic is set to be released next year.

Palomo, a devoted Scientologist, is survived by his wife, actress Karina Ricco, and his two children.
