Blue Ivy Saw Those Negative Comments About Her First Performance on Beyonc's Renaissance Tour

June 2024 · 3 minute read

Beyoncé almost didn't let Blue Ivy perform during the Renaissance World Tour.

Over the weekend, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé premiered in Los Angeles, revealing new details about how the tour came together — including her 11-year-old daughter's multiple cameos during My Power and Black Parade.

It turns out, Beyoncé was wary of the idea, despite previously performing with Blue in Dubai back in January. “She told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no,” Beyoncé says in the film, according to The New York Times. In fact, once Beyoncé changed her mind, Blue Ivy was only supposed to join her mum on stage for a single night in Paris.

Fans may remember that Blue Ivy only had “a little over a week” to prepare for the big moment, per Tina Lawson, who shared footage of her granddaughter's first Renaissance show in May. “Last night I saw my beautiful grandbaby (11) dance in front of almost 70 thousand people,” Lawson wrote on Instagram at the time. “She killed it and was as cool as a cucumber! Blue Ivy Carter ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ No Fear❤️❤️.”

Apparently, some viewers weren't completely impressed by Blue Ivy's performance, despite the fact that she was literally a child learning choreography alongside professional dancers.

According to the NYT, Beyoncé was “dismayed" to discover that Blue Ivy read social media comments that “criticised her lacklustre moves,” but was “thrilled” when her daughter decided to “put in the work” instead of calling it quits. Thus, Blue Ivy continued to dance with her mum during various stops on the tour.

Blue Ivy is currently trending on Twitter with many fans praising the preteen's tenacity. “Blue Ivy red the comments y'all made on her dancing with her own eyes, & STILL decided to train even harder,” another fan wrote on X.com alongside video comparing Blue's first and final performances. “That's what we call a QUEEN.”

However, many other fans pointed out that Blue is “just a kid” and shouldn't have to prove herself to critics. “Blue Ivy knowing & reading you all's comments about her breaks my heart,” one X user wrote. “I know y'all are twisting this to show that she's ‘resilient,’ but we do need to realise that no child should have to be resilient. The way y'all discuss & treat kids are disturbing.”

Another fan tweeted, “I’m so happy Beyoncé allowed Blue Ivy to do the whole tour when Blue was supposed to only do one show. Blue read hurtful comments about her first appearance and instead of only letting her do one show, Beyoncé invested in Blue, polished her craft & BLUE IVY FOUND HER GROOVE.”
